Bio
Akim Funk Buddha is a producer, lyricist, rhymer, lecturer, dancer and performance artist.
Akim was born in Syracuse, New York and grew up in Zimbabwe, the source of his cultural roots. He returned to New York in the early 90's and has been a part of the music, dance and theater scene ever since. "Many ask me which form I specialize in and I respond by saying, check out one of my shows. The idea is to understand the connectedness of all these realms of expression and then simply to connect them."
Akim has travelled to Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia, where he exhibited and explored his dance and poetical lyrics with both adults and children in the southern fishing communities. He conducted a workshop with children at a school for the blind, where he worked with their visualization and intuition by creating musical sounds.
Throughout the last two years Akim has performed with a group of creative artists called Dha Fusion. Actively, Akim Funk Buddha and these artists have become an unforgettable experience in clubs, theaters and cafes in New York City's nightlife.
For adults and youth, from the streets and subways of New York to outdoor food markets of Thailand, Akim always finds a creative space for interaction.
